Temporary Protected Status Announced for Nepal

Due to the magnitude 7.8 earthquake on April 25, 2015, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson designated Temporary Protected Status (“TPS”) for Nepal on June 24, 2015.  This Department of Homeland Security announcement is for TPS for 18 months, effective June 24, 2015 – December 24, 2016.  Eligible nationals of Nepal (and people without nationality who last habitually resided in Nepal) may apply for TPS during the 180-day registration period that began on June 24, 2015.

Applicants must have continuously resided in the United States since June 24, 2015, and meet other eligibility requirements. Those who are approved for TPS may obtain an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) and will not be removed from the United States during the time period that TPS is granted.
