United States Citizenship & Immigration Service (USCIS) fee increase announced

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced a final rule that will increase the filing fees for applications and benefits by a weighted average of 21 percent.  The increased fees are effective December 23, 2016.  Applications and petitions postmarked or filed on or after December 23, 2016, must include these new fees or will be rejected.

USCIS is almost entirely funded by the fees paid by applicants and petitioners for immigration benefits. The law requires USCIS to periodically review the fees and the last fee increase occured six years ago.
